Are you tired of plain old thumbnail galleries? Are row after row of tiny squares getting you down? Do you spend tons of time using photo editing software to create more interesting layouts for your images? Well have no fear, Tiled Galleries are here! Jetpack lets you display images in a variety of bold, elegant layouts with just a few clicks.
To insert a gallery into a post or page, the first thing you need, of course, are some images. Do you want to showcase your recent trip to New Mexico? Or maybe that new puppy you got? Any collection of images can be turned into a Tiled Gallery, whether you uploaded them to your site weeks ago or are just uploading them now.
Then, make sure that you’ve enabled the Tiled Galleries module in Jetpack. Activate it by going to the Jetpack page in your dashboard, and click the blue “Activate” button on the Tiled Galleries card.
Next, you’ll want to insert a new gallery into your page or post. To add a gallery, click on the “Add Media button,” and then on “Create Gallery” on the top left. You can then either upload new images or select images that are already in your media library. Choose the images you want, then click on the “Create a Gallery” button on the bottom right. Once you’ve created the Gallery, you can drag-and-drop the pictures to put them in the order you want them to appear in.
Now the fun part: choose the layout style that you want for your gallery, in the “Gallery Settings” area on the right, and let the Tiled Galleries module work its magic. You can have:
Square Tiles
or Circles
and my favorite, Tiled Mosaic
Great pictures, aren’t they? And they look smashing in the Tiled Galleries. Jetpack takes care of all the cropping and arrangement, and your site visitors can click any tile to pull up the full image.
I hope this inspires you to turn your regular Thumbnail Galleries into stylish Jetpack-powered Tiled Galleries!

This looks great, but remember to scale, compress and resize your original photos. The slide show behind each picture has dozens more. Here in the SF Bay Area, it took 30 seconds to load the first image until they finally cached in my browser.

Yep love the tiled mosaic’s also, although I have always struggled with the x to close the full screen view of an image being on the top left of the screen. Peoples natural reaction is to look for it on the top right.

Hi Mick! Did you know that you can click anywhere in the area around the photo to exit the Carousel? You can also press the ESC key on your keyboard. Also, I submitted a request to increase the size of the x to about double the size, and hope to have it implemented in a future Jetpack release.

I have really fallen in love with this feature, but i wish i could “star” some pictures, which will then show bigger than others, in Jetpack Tiled Galleries. Will more customizing-features come in future?
Second Feature i would appreciate is: If you look at the images of Tiled Mosaic Gallery on your smartphone: The pictures look too small. I wish that the images from a certain width on would no longer responsively be represented as a mosaic, but switch to full width pictures, one below the other, one picture per line.

The newer WordPress themes are responsive but it doesn’t seem these galleries are responsive. I expected the mosaic to rework itself in my browser when I shrunk the browser size. Are these responsive? If not, it seems silly for me to use this plugin instead of others that do automatically resize for my themes.

Hi! The responsiveness of the Galleries depends on the theme that you are using. For example, if you use the TwentyEleven or TwentyTwelve themes, the Galleries are responsive.

Re. tiled galleries and how “Jetpack takes care of all the cropping and arrangement”.
Therein lies the problem, cause it would be so very! neat if it offered the user the necessary control. For example, say I have three vertical photos in a 3:2 format, Jetpack will put them next to each other (in a single row) and no matter how much I’d want to make one of them fullwidth in a row below the first two, I can’t.

I love the galleries, and used the tiled mozaic on most of my posts on http://socalhiker.net. One request: Make it easy to add the Jetpack sharing buttons to images in the slideshow mode!
