Jetpack 2.9 is out! We’ve got a few exciting new additions — Multisite support, a Related Posts module, and a more secure Single Sign On — along with many smaller improvements and bug fixes.
Manage all your Multisite connections with one login
Logging in to each blog on a Multisite network to connect and configure Jetpack can be time consuming. Now, you can administer them all from one master account. When network-activating Jetpack, you’ll see a new Jetpack > Settings tab in your Network Admin. From here, you can manage all your blogs’ connections, control whether individual blog admins can reconnect with their own account, and designate which Jetpack modules are activated by default.
Make your site stickier with Related Content
The Related Posts module encourages your visitors to stick around longer by displaying links to additional content on your site related to what they’re currently viewing. Usually, analyzing website content to suggest relations eats up precious server resources. By utilizing the power of WordPress.com, the Related Posts module gives visitors more of what they came for while keeping your server resources freed up.
More security with Single Sign On
The Single Sign On module already gives you peace of mind against compromised user accounts because WordPress.com handles all the authentication for you — your site never touches the user’s private credentials. This release takes security a step further by giving site administrators the ability to require users to have Two-Step authentication enabled on their WordPress.com account before they can log in.
Jetpack 
Played with related posts add-on. Like it so far. My only problem is that the WP.com powered resizer does not always work with images included in the blog post. This also happens with popular post widget in the sidebar. A lot of times the thumbnails appear broken. For example: http://i2.wp.com/i.imgur.com/qC9fbDP.png?resize=350%2C200

I do not recommend to use imgur. External services can always have some problem (such as deleting images without warning or because of lack of access, service discontinuance…). It’s always safer to host images on service itself in that the blog is allocated.

I have a Pro account on Imgur which comes with no-delete policy as long as the images are not infringing on their terms and conditions. It’s also how I support their fantastic social platform.

That’s also correct. When you are developing on a localhost environment Jetpack cannot connect to WordPress.com. Some of Jetpack’s modules require this connection to work properly, which is why they are unavailable until the site is on a live server. Hope this helps to clear things up!

Hi! I took a look at your site, and the images seemed fine, I had an ad that broke the layout of the site on mobile, but not the Related Posts images. If you still have problems or you think it’s something we can fix, let us know by sending us a screenshot so we can have a better idea as to what the problem is.

When Single Sign On is active, for sake of aesthetics, WordPress.org login window should be hidden under a button. Just like the current setup where WordPress.org TextFields are on main display and Single Sign On is tucked under a button, but just the opposite.

That is a good thought! Take a look at https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/blob/master/modules/sso.php#L361. We implemented that idea as part of a bigger idea. The filter is there currently, but it is not surfaced anywhere in the UI till the overall feature it was part of is complete. Play with the filter though.

Turned on related posts for the first time, now I can’t turn it off! The option to show or hide is not displayed in the Reading Settings like the screen capture shows.
I’m going to have to disable the whole plugin if I can’t figure it out, the related posts it is shooing aren’t very related.

Hi! It looks like you did find how to turn off Related Posts, as I don’t see it on your site anymore. As for the posts not being very related, we are currently testing various algorithms to improve accuracy, but if you continue to notice glaring innaccuracies, do let us know!

I went into the preferences in the database table and removed Recent Posts section from the list of activated modules… I’m getting the table and field names all wrong, but you get the gist. No matter what I did, I couldn’t get the option to “Hide Recent Posts” to display. Maybe you should add “deactivate” buttons just as you have “activate” buttons. (This was on a network site, in case it helps with someone else’s bug report)
Accuracy of related posts: It might have more to do with the overuse of categories and tags on my site, as well as the sheer number of posts, something like 6,000.
As long as I have your ear… Network Search sure would be nice, as well as a Network comments feed

Hi! You can deactivate a module by clicking “Learn More” and then “Deactivate”, which is a much safer way of doing it. 🙂

I did notice that the excerpt is displayed under the post title when a featured image hasn’t been added to the post even when a default featured image fall back plugin is used.

Is there a reason the related posts function wouldn’t work? I have the related posts plugin, but even though I’ve enabled the new related posts module, it doesn’t display below my share buttons. Do you think it’s because I’m using another related posts plugin? I did try disabling the plugin, but the issue still persisted. In my reading settings, I also don’t see the options for “hide related content after posts” or “show related content after posts”. Instead, I only see “Show a “Related” header to more clearly separate the related section from posts” and “Use a large and visually striking layout”.
Although I’ve selected both, no related posts are being displayed under my like and share buttons.

Hi! Have a look this link; it shows the data we get from your site. At the end of the link, you’ll see a comment by the WP Super Cache plugin warning about a missing constant. This comment is breaking the Related Posts module’s ability to parse your site’s data, so you’ll need to get it fixed. As for your other questions, we’ve fixed up the document to correct the errors you spotted.

Related Content only seems to work for posts (the module is called Related Posts on the admin page, tellingly). Would it be possible to include pages too?

For the moment, we don’t support pages out of the box because there’s not really a standard place to put the related content on a page and have it work for almost everyone. However, the underlying system supports all post types including pages. You could modify your theme to use the “raw” class noted here: https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/blob/2.9/modules/related-posts/jetpack-related-posts.php#L899 (Note: this is *not* a CSS class)

Thanks for Related posts feature. But Looks like I’m missing something on it. Post thumbnails is not coming unique and no control on that (size). Responsive view is broken. I hope in future we will get all advanced features for Related posts.

The issue I am having with ‘Related Posts’ is that it is not scaling images well for the thumbnails – in fact, they are too big and overlap. This results in annoying flickering when the mouse is over two overlapping images (the one in the middle exhibits this problem best).
One feature I would like to see in ‘Related Posts’ is the ability to customize colours and border. Personally, I would be happy with the ability to set: (1) background colour, (2) enable / disable a border, (3) change colour, size, and text of the ‘Related’ header (for example, change it from “Related” to “You may also like:”).

I was super-excited about this update since it finally added multi-site support, particularly a global login and designate which Jetpack modules are activated by default. Sadly, I don’t get the option to designate which modules are activated by default. I only get the option to allow sub-site override (administrators can disconnect or connect with their own accounts). What am I missing? I really love the plugin but it’s a huge pain to deactivate the modules we don’t need for every site.
