Jetpack 4.7: The Answer is Always 42

Welcome to Jetpack 4.7, available now for upgrade or installation.

After a few releases chock-full of new features (like Google Analytics and Ads) we decided to focus an entire release cycle on some cleanup, enhancements, and bug fixes. An early Spring-cleaning if you will, getting us ready for some even more exciting feature announcements later in the year.

When we looked back at how many fixes and enhancements we put into this release we were not surprised to learn that it was exactly 42 of each (sorry, couldn’t help that).

42 Bugs Fixed

The changelog has all the details but the highlights include:

  • Carousel now works better with Photon and with Infinite Scroll.
  • Fixed a problem where CSS was being stripped when migrating from Jetpack’s Custom CSS to Core’s CSS editor.
  • Fixed a PHP error when uninstalling Jetpack.
  • Improved Sharing to render custom sharing services correctly, include Open Graph Meta Tags, and avoid JavaScript errors when jQuery is enqueued in the footer.
  • The Follow Widget now translates according to the site’s language.
  • The Twitter character counter in Publicize got a fix to display info correctly.

42 Enhancements Launched

Once again, the changelog includes everything. The highlights here are:

  • Made a number of features more accessible including stats, keyboard focus, and including labels and icons where they were missing.
  • Various performance improvements to page load times, database queries, API endpoints, and removing unnecessary sync options to save memory.
  • Added more information to our debug tools to improve your support experience when you contact us.
  • Infinite Scroll now works beautifully with the Twenty Seventeen Theme.
  • Fixed some W3C validation errors in Comments

I’ve updated Jetpack but this has caused the Slideshows to stop working, instead it shows a black screen only. Please check this post https://bedroomsdecor.com/room-decorating/amazing-interior-designing-ideas/

Besides, it has also caused a Widget tabs for post, comments and popular to stop working. For the time being, I’ve removed that and added new features.

    Please correct this asap!

I had a look at your post, and noticed quite a few JavaScript errors:
      http://i.wpne.ws/jT3z

Some of the errors appear to be triggered by some of the ads on your site, another appears to be created by Google Maps, but the majority appears to be triggered by your minification plugin, Fast Velocity Minify.

I would recommend that you check your plugin settings to solve this issue; once all JavaScript errors are gone, all features that rely on JavaScript on your site (like Jetpack’s Slideshow or dynamic tabs) will start working again.

I hope this helps. If you still experience issues with Jetpack, don’t hesitate to send us an email!

Does this mean that Google+ will finally stop having the problem of not rendering new posts properly? I’ve had issues with them for over 2 years, getting an “ugly link” instead of a photo, custom publicize message, the link and the excerpt. It would be great if this issue is finally fixed now.

We haven’t made any changes to Publicize in this release. If you’re experiencing issues with some of your posts on Google+, don’t hesitate to give us more details and examples so we can take a look!

Good to know. I think I have solved it, thanks to a snippet you helped me with a couple of weeks ago. Also I’ve put that snippet in the mu-plugins folder. If the problem comes back, I’ll let you know. I’ve also contacted you several times over the years about this issue, and it must be an issue with google+. Thanks for answering!

Hi guys, thanks for keeping up with JetPack, love to have it installed as much as possible on all websites. Really makes things smooth. One pet peeve would be to update the Social Media Icons and links to link to https://www.instagram.com/samuellavoie/ rather than their old URL with no-www. Sad to keep up with those guys changing, remember the instagr.am old days! 😉
