Got confused for a while because the gallery feature did not work for me on Chrome dev channel. Tried on Firefox and… Nicely done!

Let us know if you’re encountering any problems in Chrome; we’ve been testing regularly on both the Beta and Canary channels (just confirmed it’s working on the Dev channel, too). The exact Chrome version number and a link to the page will help us.

I was thinking you might add Pinterest support to sharing in this release. Do you know when it will be added? It’s fairly critical for some of my clients. Thanks!

Agree. This has been something that many have been asking for… last I heard it was to be added to the next upgrade. That was two upgrades ago.

I’d love to see this as well, many of my clients require Pinterest sharing for their sites. it’d be awesome if there were a Pin It button as part of the Carousel.

I don’t get how to enable this. I have jetpack installed, and none of the galleries in my posts use this. I made a new post and inserted a gallery and it didnt work either.

Go to the Jetpack config screen in your admin, and make sure the module is turned on.

This looks cool, but I have two concerns before I employ this on my sites. 1) when will the chrome issue be resolved? 2) I have Highslide for WordPress *reloaded* installed on my main site, and I like it. Will this work with Highslide?
LikeLike
We can’t recreate any Chrome issues on any OS or version we’ve tried so far — if you can send us version numbers and a link to the page that’s not working.
I’m not familiar with Highslide, so not sure if it will work with it or not. You can try it, worst comes to worst you just deactivate the module.

Fair enough answer, and amazing response time. Thanks! I’ll give it a try and let you know how Highslide and Carousel together and let you know if they play nice.

I am on the latest Chrome Dev Channel release and it does not work in it. But then a lot of things are broken in this specific release (I cannot load Disqus for example!). I do not have access to Chrome stable channel right now. I assume that you guys tested on the stable build.

I have Shadowbox JS installed and when I click on a photo in a gallery I get Jetpack Carousel and it works fine. BUT, when I leave Carousel by using escape I get the Shadowbox JS slide show module. Is there a way to deal with this other than disabling Shadowbox JS? I do not want to loose the Shadowbox JS functions on single images. I prefer Carousel and I would like to use it only. But I have lots of single images that have links coded into them and without Lightbox JS the single images link to a page with just that image. That is kindof annoying. Is there an easy way with a plugin or something else to just strip all of those links from the images? Thanks, I am really loving jetpack!
LikeLike
Matt, how would you go about implementing Carousel functionality on a single image? Many sites use just one image and not a gallery of images… many sites currently enjoy a lightbox plugin that supports both single image and galleries… I enjoy Jetpack and believe Carousel to be a superior design, but at present it seems to inferior to many other lightbox solutions for its lack of single image support. Please tell me I am wrong.

We don’t have single image support — that’s correct. If you want both, you should use something else until we do.

Any idea on when you might have support for single images? While I am asking, any idea on when you might have support for Pinterest sharing?

None yet — we don’t pre-announce these sorts of things.

I have the exact same problem with akwpLightbox. Please make the caroussel work with single images linked to image files. The plugins clash, so it’s impossible to have both activated and working.

Yep, I too need single image support before I can turn off the Lightbox plugin I use which covers both WordPress galleries and single images. Thanks!

It works and looks great on my galleries! I really like this feature. 🙂
But it flows over the scroll bar in Opera 12.00, FF 14.0 and IE 9 on my machine… Is that deliberate or some kind of error?

It’s looking amazing, I just wish it would work on my website 🙂 For some reason, with Carousel enabled (or disabled for that matter) the thumbnails just links to the image page. It’s not working in Chrome, Safari or Firefox. I’ve deactivated and activated it again but that doesn’t work….

I would love to use Carousel, but it does not work on my blog http://friedbert.net/. I thought it might be a problem in combination with the Fancybox plugin, but deactivating Fancybox does not work either. Next I would consider checking any problem with W3 Total Cache, but before I mess up my blog, I wanted to ask, if anybody experienced problems in combination with those or other plugins.
Thank you very much in advance!

No joy here, either. Updated Jetpack, activated the Carousel, embedded an image gallery in a post, but all I get when I click on an image is the image page.
I do have Lightbox Plus activated. Do I need to turn that off?

I have W3 Total Cache plugin installed, and in order for carousel to work I have to disable JS minify in W3. Any suggestions on how I can use carousel and still have JS minify enabled in W3?
LikeLike
That’s probably a better question for the W3 guys, there’s nothing inherit in our JS that shouldn’t work with minification.

Nicely done. But I believe the close button could be on the right as that’s the default for most gallery.

We’re probably going to make that OS-aware, so it goes on the right or left depending on the conventions of your operating system.

I’m having the same problem. Normally I use Shadowbox JS. Even when I disable all the plugins without Jetpack, it still won’t work.
I’ve searched the source of the page for the javascript file, but it won’t be included. I use WP 3.4.1 and a LAMP setup with APC. Even clearing the cache won’t do the trick. Tested it with Firefox and Opera, both latest versions.

I have no way to test this right now (really), but would like to go ahead and ask 2 questions:
1. Does Jetpack carousel work only if the gallery thumbnails are linked to attachment pages, or would it work just fine even if they are directly linked to the file?
2. (My previous comment hasn’t shown up, so…) There seems to be no way to disable comments in carousel from the settings. Does the carousel respect the image.php or attachments.php template by chance? I mean, would removing comments code from the template disable comments in carousel too?
LikeLike
1. It should work for both.
2. I believe it respects the setting of the parent post.

It looks great and I guess we can work on some couple ‘design’ modification (like integration of pinterest and ad banner…), but quick questions, Does each image slides count as a pageview ?
* And an other great idea would be to have at the end of the gallery some related slideshow galleries, so that users can surf from gallery to gallery.

Does Jetpack Carousel respect image.php or attachments.php templates by chance? Would removing
from the templates also disable comments in Jetpack Carousel? or is there no simple way to disable comments at all? (other than hacking into the plugin maybe)

It shortcuts them — they’re still there and work but most users won’t see them anymore because they’ll get the pop-up.

Single images support should be a nice add on to the carousel. Otherwise you still need 2 plugins and then you get that these plugins will interfere.

Are mobile devices not supported? On my iPhone, the gallery view on this page doesn’t work; it just loads a separate page with the one image I selected. I tested a couple of other web pages, and those look even worse: the gallery view does load, but the images are tiny thumbnails on the screen. You can’t even pinch-zoom to view them larger.
I’m a professional illustrator, so cross-platform support is huge for me. If potential clients can’t see my work, they’re going to move on. I’m currently using SimpleViewer my portfolio, and it works quite well on all the devices I’ve tested.

I dig the carousel but would very much like support for regular images, not just WP galleries. on the sites I work with, we use a combination of wordpress galleries, gallery2, and regular images. if this supported regular images then we could have consistent behavior for all images. thanks!

Would it be an idea to combine the functionality of carousel and the embed function for video/media files? In line with previous requests for single image support that would give a nice and distraction free focus on the media content when clicked.
Just my 2 cents.

I am not sure why but a comment I posted a few days ago did not get approved. I asked if it would be possible to use JetPack with carousel feature being disabled and have Sahdowbox or similar presentation plugins working. Currently if I activate JP it totally stops Shadowbox JS, I checked to make sure the carousel feature was not turned on, it was not. Enabling the carousel does not offer a substitute functionality. Until there is a solution to this I will have to disable JP.

Dear Cemal,
I had similar problems. It is not required to disable W3TC completely. For me it was sufficient to disable JS minify. There are still benefits from W3TC and I hope this helps you too.

Doesn’t support single images. Isn’t mobile friendly. Should be integrated into the media embed tools. Each image should be a pageview. Should have shortcodes. It’s kinda slow with larger galleries… oh, and it’s odd how you disable it. Just saying, but well on it’s way to being a positive addition to Jetpack.

I do upload all the pictures I use on my site directly from my computer using wordpress (add media). Gallery tag? I am not sure of. One of my pages I have used file attachment which I believe should be used for carousel to create a post, as it were, still not coming into operation with this though, except for partially when I use Firefox, which makes me think this would give a clue as to whats wrong. I am not going to give up on this Tim, as carousel is just what I am looking for, please stick with me to sort this out.

Control elements that are consistent and intuitive seem to be lacking in the Carousel module. For example, the left and right arrows are on the opposite sides of the screen. With a wide screen monitor (or a regular 4:3 monitor) it takes a lot of mouse movement to change directions. Was this done for a reason? Why not put the left and right arrows in the center of the screen, next to each other (either above or below) the image.
Also, the “x” close button is on the top left. I’ve never seen a close “x” button on the top left, it’s always on the top right. Was this done for a specific reason, or to be different? Can the close “x” button be moved to thee more familiar top right of the screen?
LikeLike
Consistency and intuitiveness, in this case, are a personal preference. In one case, what is available in Carousel may be consistent and intuitive; in others, it may not. These elements are unlikely to change soon, though we do appreciate the feedback 🙂
