We recently released a slew of Google+ integrations for WordPress, and mentioned that Google+ Publicize support would be coming soon to Jetpack users. Publicize makes it easy to share your new posts on other social networks (like Facebook and Twitter). Using it is a great way to build your readership and expose your content to new audiences.
Well, the wait is over — we’re excited to announce that you can now share your latest content on your Google+ Profiles and Pages!
Improved overall performance
Jetpack 2.7, which has just been released, adds Publicize to your site. In order to connect your account(s), head to your dashboard, then go to Settings → Sharing. Clicking on the “Connect” button next to the Google+ logo will prompt you to authenticate your account. Once you have, you can start enjoying the benefits of publishing your content to Google+ — just make sure that you’ve enabled the Publicize module.
Jetpack 2.7 also contains multiple bugfixes and other little features. You can view a full changelog of these updates by visiting this page.
We hope you enjoy Jetpack 2.7!

I would still like to see the +1 button return in place of share. The share button is a waste; it has one use. The +1 button let you +1 and share so why change that? This is also impacting my rating with Google negatively as people can no longer +1 content and Google looks for that.
LikeLike
We’ve decided to replace the +1 button by a Share button to provide a more consistent experience; all the other Jetpack sharing buttons are made to share posts, and the +1 button was the only one that was +1. That could cause confusion for some users.
The new Share button is a much better fit along the other sharing buttons.
However, you can still add the +1 button back by extending the existing Jetpack sharing module, like this plugin does for example.

That’s too bad. I know I can get a +1 button in there but I was hoping to not have to get yet another plugin to add a feature to an existing sharing feature/plugin. It’s a bit counter-productive: two plugins to get one feature set.
Ultimately that’s my issue I suppose. Instead of providing the end user the option of how they would like _their_ social sharing options to appear, which JetPack once upon a time did on many of the buttons, the options were removed and are now it has to look the way _JetPack programmers_ want it to look.
I don’t mean to sound bitter here but I’m just disappointed.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how popular Google + is? Do people really use it much?
LikeLike
It is popular, but of course some people will need to add you to their Circles before you start seeing a decent amount of traffic from Google+ to your site.
I would suggest that you enable Publicize to push your posts to your Google+ profile, and start interacting with other users on Google+; once you start doing so you’ll probably get more and more visitors from Google+!

I wanted this. But now I am kind of sad because it would make Google+ a lot like Twitter to me. Full of automated content.
OK. Any plans to provide some options on customizing share? I do not like the idea of leaving the link and the excerpt.

That’s not possible yet, but we’ll consider your idea for a future Jetpack update.
Thanks for the feedback!

How do you connect a google plus company page instead of a personal profile? We ran an magazine and would want to share the post on the magazine google plus page rather then on one’s personal profile

Try going to Settings > Sharing in your dashboard, and click on Add New next to the Google+ icon. You will be redirected to Google+, and if your Google account is listed as a manager of a Google+ Company page, you will be able to choose whether you want to connect to your personal profile or to a Company Page.

Is there anyway to get it to post to a Google+ business page though? I have not found a way to do that.

You can choose whether you want to publish to your personal profile or to a Page when making the connection. To get started, go to Settings > Sharing in your dashboard, and click on Add New. You will be redirected to Google+, and you will have to choose whether you want to connect to your personal profile or to one of the Pages you manage.

So glad this service is finally available. I can’t figure out how to make my publicized posts public though, it seems like they’re private automatically and I dont see anywhere to change that setting

Thanks I got that to work, but not through your link. I had to go through something like 5 steps through my settings to find a different way of getting to my plus page app settings. Dont blame this on wordpress, google plus is a complete mess. I get that it’s powerful, but this is ridiculous

Jeremy: The link and description did work for me. Thank you!

I did not notice an option when adding WordPress as a Google app for changing the permission it will use when creating posts. For me, my posts were set to Only Me. So this was only useful if I am the only person who can see them. I was able fix it by in my Google+ going to Settings > Manage Apps & Activities > edit next WordPress. Public, Circles, Extended Circles were all options for who could see my posts. (I guess I could create a BlogViewers custom group and add anyone who I want to see my posts on G+.)

I connected the G+ and it pushed it through okay but it posted to G+ as a private post, not public.

is it possible to share the post title and link to google+, instead of the excerpt?

I’m afraid you cannot customize the excerpt that is sent to Google+ at this point, but we’ll consider your idea for a future Jetpack update!

Hi, thank you for this. I managed to push my post to Google plus and it picked up the title and excerpt correctly, however it failed to pick up the featured image. Am I not doing something correctly or publishing to Google plus at this stage will not include featured images?
Cheers

It should pick up your Featured Images. If you keep experiencing issues with your future posts, do not hesitate to send us an email with more details, we’ll be happy to take a closer look!

Yes! I’m looking forward to my next post because of this! 🙂
On Blogger, it would automatically (and only) post to Google+. However, if the post were scheduled, it would not post. Is there a similar limitation with Publicize? Will it post scheduled postings to Google+?
Thanks!
LikeLike
Scheduled posts will indeed be posted to your Google+ Profile or Page, as soon as they get published on your site.

Finally. I’ve tried several similar options but I was limited to only being able to publish to a Google+ Page, and I only have a profile. I’ll come back to Jetpack and give it a go. Heck, I’ll publish this on my WordPress Weekly I post every Friday.

Thanks, I was waiting for this feature. I have connected two different hosted WordPress blog with a single WordPress account and both blogs connected successfully. I have to see if sharing feature works on both.

Will the Jetpack share feature keep the share tallies (numbers) from Shareaholic’s SexyBookmarks? (Which is what I’m currently using.) Or will the numbers all be set at zero on all my posts?
LikeLike
I believe Shareaholic pulls sharing counts from each Social Network, much like Jetpack does. It consequently does not matter which sharing plugin you use; as long as you do not change the URL of your posts, their sharing counts will remain available.
