Configure Jetpack Stats for Your Website
Get valuable insight into how visitors engage with your website. Adjust which page views are counted and who has access to your stats.
Choose the right Jetpack Stats plugin
Jetpack Stats can be used via one of two plugins:
- Jetpack (includes other Jetpack features)
- Jetpack Stats (Jetpack Stats only)
Read about general Jetpack requirements to make sure it is compatible with your website.
Once you have installed and activated one of the plugins, navigate to Stats in your WP Admin.
Access Jetpack Stats settings
Jetpack Stats settings are on the Settings tab of the Stats dashboard in WP Admin. The tab is the same in the Jetpack plugin and the standalone Jetpack Stats plugin, and only Administrators see it.
To open the Jetpack Stats settings, follow these steps:
- From WP Admin, go to Stats.
- Click the Settings tab. It’s the last tab, after Traffic, Insights, and Subscribers.
Jetpack saves each setting as soon as you change it. You do not need to click a save button.
The Jetpack Stats card under Jetpack → Settings → Traffic no longer holds these settings. Its “Manage Stats settings” link opens the same Settings tab.
See a 48-hour traffic snapshot
Jetpack adds a small chart to your admin bar with a quick view of traffic over 48 hours. Your admin bar is the black horizontal bar that appears at the top of the screen when you are viewing your site as a logged-in user.
The bar can be activated or deactivated in your user profile by following these steps:
- Go to WP Admin.
- Navigate to Users → Profile.
- Locate the Toolbar option to activate or deactivate the admin bar.
- Click Update Profile to save changes.
To toggle the 48-hour traffic snapshot:
- From WP Admin, go to Stats and click the Settings tab.
- In the Admin bar section, turn the “Put a chart showing 48 hours of views in the admin bar” toggle on or off.
Manage what views are counted
By default, page views from logged-in users are not counted. Views from Administrators, Editors, Authors, Contributors, and logged-in Subscribers are ignored by stats by default. You can adjust that by including visits from logged-in users depending on their user role.
Steps to adjust counted views:
- From WP Admin, go to Stats and click the Settings tab.
- In the Logged-in views section, turn on each role whose page views you want counted. Turn a role off to stop counting its views.
Your website may have additional custom roles enabled by plugins or custom code. All these roles will appear, so you turn them on or off to be counted towards stats.
Exclude specific IPs
To exclude visits from specific IPs, use the following code snippet:
add_filter(
'jetpack_stats_excluded_ips',
function ( $excluded_ips ) {
$excluded_ips[] = 'your_IP_here';
// if you want to add another IP uncomment the next line
// $excluded_ips[] = 'another_IP_here';
return $excluded_ips;
}
);
To exclude your own IP, you can find its value with a service such as whatsmyip.org.
For more information on adding code snippets, see Add PHP Code Without Editing Files.
Manage who can see the stats
By default, only Administrators have access to Jetpack stats. However, you can grant view access to other user roles.
Steps to grant view access:
- From WP Admin, go to Stats and click the Settings tab.
- In the Stats access section, turn on each role you want to let view Jetpack Stats. Turn a role off to remove its access.
Administrators can always view Jetpack Stats, so the Administrator toggle stays on and can’t be changed. Your site may also have custom roles enabled by plugins or custom code. All these roles will appear, so you can turn their stats viewing permissions on or off.
WordPress.com Reader
By default, the Reader feed shows information on the post views.
Steps to toggle post views in WordPress.com Reader:
- From WP Admin, go to Stats and click the Settings tab.
- In the WordPress.com Reader section, turn the “Show post views for this site” toggle on or off.
By following these steps and tips, you can effectively configure Jetpack Stats to suit your website’s needs, providing valuable insights and control over who can access your stats.
