Jetpack 8.8: Ready for WordPress 5.5

WordPress 5.5 comes out in a few days, and Jetpack is ready: Jetpack 8.8 is fully compatible with WordPress 5.5. There are also a few other notable improvements:

  • The plugin is 25% lighter. Improvements to Jetpack’s internationalization allow us to fully rely on language packs offered by translate.wordpress.org. As a result, the Jetpack plugin itself has about 150 fewer files, which will especially improve performance during plugin updates on limited server environments.
  • We’ve improved the connection process. You’ll now see an option to reconnect your site to WordPress.com if it ever gets disconnected, and the error messages are clearer so you understand exactly how to fix them.

We recommend updating now to benefit from all the recent improvements and bug fixes in Jetpack and in WordPress! Jetpack 8.8 requires WordPress 5.4 or above, so it’s also a great time to make sure your version of WordPress is up to date.

This release also includes many other bug fixes and improvements — check the changelog for more details. To use the latest version of Jetpack on your site, update your existing installation or install Jetpack.

Note
On August 10, we’ve released Jetpack 8.8.1 to make more changes to ensure full compatibility with the upcoming version of WordPress, and to fix display issues in the Jetpack dashboard for some site owners.
