Jetpack 8.1 is now available for download. Our first release of the new decade is a general maintenance release that fixes several bugs and improves compatibility between Jetpack, PHP 7.4, and the newest default WordPress theme, Twenty Twenty.

Here’s what’s new this month.

Twenty Twenty

It’s a new year, there’s a new default WordPress theme, and Jetpack is now more compatible with it:

  • Notifications no longer conflict with Twenty Twenty’s video resizing feature.
  • Tiled Galleries used inside Classic blocks are correctly aligned.
  • The Authors and Flickr widgets have a better look.
  • Infinite Scroll does not suppress the display of footer widgets.
  • The Customizer now includes Content Options.

PHP 7.4 Compatibility

To make Jetpack fully compatible with PHP version 7.4, we introduced a few minor changes and deprecated features such as curly brace syntax for array elements.

And more

As always, this release includes many other bug fixes and improvements, mostly focused on the synchronization with your site so we’re always using the most up-to-date information.

You can check the changelog for more details. To use the latest version of Jetpack on your site, update your existing installation or install Jetpack.

Note / January 23, 2020
We’ve just released a new version of Jetpack, 8.1.1, in anticipation of changes to Google Chrome. All Jetpack features should now work well, even with the most recent version of the browser.

And Coming Soon…

In March 2020, we’ll retire the Jetpack mobile theme. The mobile theme was a fallback for folks whose regular theme didn’t include a mobile view, but most themes now include a mobile view by default. Check out this page for more details.
