Great news for Jetpack users! With the release of the new, there are some exciting improvements for Jetpack users, too!

The Jetpack plugin now gives your self-hosted sites access to the new publishing and site-building tools — and the brand new app for Mac, along with a host of features to speed up, secure, and simplify site administration like automatic backups and plugin auto-updating.

Use the desktop app to focus on your content and design with no other browser tabs to distract you, or to keep your sites sidelined but accessible. Build your site anywhere, in whatever way helps you get your best work done: the app is powered by the same technology that runs, creating a seamless experience for publishing and browsing whether you’re in a browser, a mobile app, or the desktop!

(Windows and Linux users, we haven’t forgotten you! Visit the download page and sign up to be notified when your apps are available.)

I am completely confused buy this post. I had understood “self-hosted” sites to be wordpress.ORG, not wordpress.COM, and that users can’t use the Jetpack plug-ins at all, much less benefit from all this newness.

    Not so?

    Please explain?

    Thanks. I use

The new Editor and the desktop apps are already available to every user, including you! You can read more about it here.

The Jetpack plugin is only there as bridge between and it enables “self-hosted” sites to use these features.

I hope this clarifies things a bit!

So… I need a login to use this? And when I go there, it wants me to, like, create a site, which I have no need for. What’s the deal?

    • Jeremy says:

The desktop app is useful to manage sites as well as self-hosted WordPress sites you connected to a account.

If you’d like to try the app for one of your self-hosted WordPress sites, start by installing the Jetpack plugin under Plugins > Add New in your dashboard. You’ll be able to create a account during Jetpack’s configuration, and you won’t need to create a site.

If you’d like to create a account without using Jetpack, you can do so here:

Oh, so there’s a sign-up process during Jetpack setup that doesn’t want me to create a site? Cool, will try. Thanks.
