The Jetpack VideoPress Dashboard

Upload and manage all of your videos in one place across three tabs: Library, Stats, and Settings.

You can try VideoPress for free with hosting for one video (up to 1 GB in file size), or get unlimited video uploads with 1 TB of storage through the standalone VideoPress plan or the Jetpack Complete bundle.

Requirements

To use VideoPress, you need one of the following plugins installed:

• The Jetpack VideoPress plugin, a dedicated tool for video hosting.
• The Jetpack plugin (version 16.0 or later) for broader Jetpack features.

You also need the VideoPress module enabled. To enable it, go to Jetpack → Settings → Performance.

VideoPress library

The Library tab is where you manage your entire video collection. From here, you can upload, browse, search, and filter all your videos, as well as edit video details, change privacy settings, and apply bulk actions.

Add or remove videos

You can add new videos to your library by dragging and dropping a file directly onto the Library page or by clicking Upload Video to browse your computer.

If you previously uploaded videos to your site’s Media Library, those files are stored on your web host rather than on VideoPress servers. You can convert them by hovering over a local video’s thumbnail and clicking Upload to VideoPress. Converting transfers the file to VideoPress servers and removes the local copy from your site, so save a backup first if you want to keep the original.

To remove videos from VideoPress, hover over a video’s thumbnail, click the three dots in the top right, then select Delete.

Search and filter

You can search for a specific video by name or use the filters to narrow the list. The available filters are:

• Privacy: Public, Private, or Site Default
• Type: VideoPress video or Local video
• Uploaded: videos uploaded before or after a specified date

Adjust appearance

You can switch the library between two layouts using the layout toggle in the top right. Grid view displays your videos as a collection of thumbnail cards, while Table view shows them as a vertical list with sortable columns.

You can customize which details appear in either layout by clicking the gear icon and toggling items on or off under Properties.

The gear icon also gives you access to these display options:

• Sort By: sort videos alphabetically by title or filename, or by date uploaded
• Order: further adjust Sort By by ascending (↑) or descending (↓)
• Density: control the amount of space between items in your library. Choose from three levels.
  • Comfortable: the most spacious layout, with the widest gaps between items. Easier to browse when you have a smaller collection or want to focus on individual thumbnails.
  • Balanced: a middle ground between spacing and the number of items visible at once. This is the default when viewing videos as a table.
  • Compact: the tightest layout, fitting more items on screen by reducing the space between them. Useful for scanning through a large library quickly.
• Preview size: adjust the size of the library items
• Items per page: control the amount of items that appear per page (10, 20, 50, or 100)
• Properties: control the details displayed for each item:
  • Title: video title
  • Thumbnail: video preview image (always shown)
  • Filename: the original filename from when the video was uploaded
  • Type: whether the video is hosted on VideoPress or stored locally
  • Uploaded: the date the video was uploaded
  • Duration: the length of the video
  • Orientation: whether the video is landscape or portrait
  • Privacy: the video’s privacy setting (Public, Private, or Site Default)
  • File size: displays the size of the video file stored on your site. For videos hosted on VideoPress, this displays as “0 B” because the file is stored on Jetpack Cloud rather than on the local site.

Manage video privacy in bulk

You can change the privacy of several videos at once from the VideoPress dashboard library using three bulk actions: Make public, Make private, and Reset to site default. These actions let you control who can view your videos without editing each video individually.

Each bulk action does the following:

• Make public sets the selected videos so anyone can view them.
• Make private sets the selected videos so they are not publicly accessible.
• Reset to site default sets the selected videos to follow your site’s default privacy setting.

To apply a bulk privacy action, follow these steps:

1. Go to the VideoPress dashboard library.
2. Select the checkbox for each video you want to update.
3. Click Make public, Make private, or Reset to site default.
4. Confirm the action to apply the new privacy setting to all selected videos.

VideoPress stats tab

The Stats tab of the VideoPress dashboard shows how your videos are performing. It includes:

• Views, Impressions, and Watch time: Three summary cards, each showing the current total and the change from the previous period. Select a card to update the trends chart below it.
• Trends chart: A line chart of daily activity for the selected metric. Change the grouping (days, weeks, or months) and the comparison period using the dropdowns above the chart.
• Most viewed: A list of your five most-viewed videos, with links to each video’s details.
• Top videos by watch time: A list of your five videos with the most total watch time.
• Date range: Use the dropdown in the header to show data for the last 7, 30, 90, or 365 days.

When you upgrade to a paid plan, the Cloud video storage module is added, which displays a usage bar for the percentage of cloud video storage available.

VideoPress settings

From the Settings tab, you can adjust and configure site-wide VideoPress options:

• Video Privacy — Restrict video playback to logged-in members of your site. This applies to all videos by default; you can still override privacy per video. See video privacy settings for more details.
• Automatically generate subtitles for new videos — When enabled, VideoPress creates subtitles automatically for each new upload. You can turn this off to stop auto-generating subtitles for future uploads. See adding subtitles to your videos for more details.

Edit video details

Open a video from the Library tab to view and edit its details. At the top of the page, you will see a fully playable video preview. This is a live embedded player, not a static thumbnail image. Click Play to watch your video directly from the dashboard and confirm its content before making any changes.

If your video was recently uploaded and is still being processed, the player is not available yet. Instead, a processing indicator appears in its place. Processing completes automatically, and the player loads on its own once it is finished. You do not need to refresh the page or re-upload the video.

You can view and edit a video’s details, including:

• Title: The video’s name.
• Description: Details about the video.
• Privacy: Who can view the video.
• Allow sharing: Turn sharing options on or off.
• Allow downloads: Let viewers download the video file.
• Rating: Set a content rating of G, PG-13, or R.

The details screen also shows read-only information you can copy: the video link, the shortcode, the file name, and the upload date.

Select Save to apply your changes. Save stays disabled until you make a change.

Add a video to new posts

The Add to New Post option embeds a VideoPress video directly into a new post, saving you the step of copying embed codes manually. WordPress automatically creates a new post with the selected video embedded. You can then edit and publish the post as needed.

Update thumbnail

Below the video preview, you will find the Update thumbnail control. This is how you set the poster image that represents your video in the Library and in embedded players. The thumbnail you set also appears in the large preview at the top of the page.
