Get started

VideoPress is compatible with most WordPress themes. For best results, use themes that support the Block Editor. The following resources help you connect Jetpack and upload your first video:

Access the VideoPress dashboard

The VideoPress dashboard is available at WP Admin → Jetpack → VideoPress. You can access it through the main Jetpack plugin (version 16.0 or later) or the standalone Jetpack VideoPress plugin.

Before you follow these steps, enable the VideoPress module on your site. Go to Jetpack → Settings → Performance in your WP Admin to enable the VideoPress module.

After the module is enabled, go to Jetpack → VideoPress in your WP Admin to access three tabs: Library, Stats, and Settings.

Connect your WordPress.com account

Each administrator must connect their own WordPress.com account to use the VideoPress dashboard. This account connection is separate from the site connection. Even if another administrator has already connected the site, you must connect your account the first time you open the dashboard.

If your account is not connected, the Connect to set up VideoPress screen appears instead of the VideoPress dashboard.

To connect your account, follow these steps:

1. Go to Jetpack → VideoPress in WP Admin.
2. Click Connect.
3. Log in to your WordPress.com account and approve the connection.

After you connect your account, the VideoPress dashboard displays the Library, Stats, and Settings tabs. You can then upload and manage your videos.

Customize videos

You can customize how your videos look and behave. The following resources cover customization options:

Adaptive streaming with VideoPress

VideoPress offers adaptive streaming, which adjusts video quality automatically to match the viewer’s bandwidth and screen size for faster playback. Viewers can still choose their preferred quality from the menu.

VideoPress videos after a site restore

If you restore your site’s database to a point before VideoPress videos were added, the database records for those videos are removed. The video files themselves are not deleted — VideoPress file restores are conservative and do not remove existing files — but the WordPress posts, embeds, and metadata that referenced those videos are gone.

After a database restore, previously embedded VideoPress videos may display an ownership error or appear broken. This happens because the embed code references a post ID or video ID that no longer exists in the restored database.

To recover embedded videos after a database restore:

1. Re-add the video to the relevant posts or pages using the VideoPress block in the Block Editor.
2. If videos are missing from your library, contact support — the video files may be recoverable from VideoPress storage.

To avoid this issue in future restores, note the date of your most recent VideoPress uploads before restoring your database. If you need to restore to a point before those uploads, you may need to re-add the videos manually after the restore completes.

Cancelled or expired VideoPress plan

If you cancel your VideoPress plan, or it expires, Jetpack does not delete your video files, but the videos are no longer publicly accessible to your audience. Resubscribing to VideoPress enables the videos to be viewed again.

VideoPress storage limit

The VideoPress paid plan includes a total storage limit of 1 TB. You cannot purchase additional storage beyond this limit.

VideoPress Terms of Service

Your videos should use the VideoPress player on the WordPress site for which VideoPress has been purchased, and comply with the other service guidelines.

Privacy Information

VideoPress is deactivated by default. You can activate or deactivate it at any time by toggling the Enable high-speed, ad-free video player setting in the Video section at Jetpack → Settings → Performance in your WP Admin.

Data Used
Site Owners / Users In order to track video plays for your stats, we will send the site ID, post ID (on which the video is played), and domain name of your site with these events. If Google Analytics tracking is enabled, some video information (size, quality, format, file name, ID, etc.) will be sent there, as well. Please refer to the privacy documentation for Jetpack Stats and Google Analytics for more information on the data used to record video play tracking.
