Keep your site running quickly and safely by ensuring that plugins are up-to-date.
Well-maintained WordPress plugins are always being improved for better functionality and to address any security threats that are discovered. Keep your site secure and running smoothly by using the most updated version of your plugins (also known as add-ons or extensions).
Automatically update plugins (recommended)
Most plugins offer an auto-update option. It’s best to enable these so everything is taken care of automatically.
- Navigate to the plugins area of your WP Admin.
- After each plugin’s description, click the
Enable auto-updatesoption.
Some updates may show Managed by Host and cannot be controlled by you.
Update plugins manually
If a plugin has an update available, which has not been installed, you’ll see an alert icon next to Updates and Plugins in your WP Admin sidebar.
- Navigate to the plugins area of your WP Admin
- Read the details about what version is available and what changes it includes.
- Click
Update now.
Troubleshoot plugin updates
Auto-updates scheduling relies on WordPress Cron tasks to perform the update.
To check if WordPress Cron tasks are running correctly, go to Tools > Site Health and search for any error message, along with instructions for how to resolve it.
