Publish Better Content with Write Brief with AI

Jetpack AI adds a handy Write Brief with AI tool directly in your post editor to estimate the readability of your content, highlight opportunities for improvement, and give helpful suggestions.

Requirements for using Jetpack’s Write Brief with AI feature

Write Brief with AI requires that a site be connected to Jetpack (Jetpack version 13.7 or higher), using the block editor with Jetpack Blocks activated. For more details, check the Requirements.

Write Brief with AI usage limitations

Currently, the usage of Write Brief with AI does not count towards your total request usage on the free Jetpack AI plan.

Write Brief with AI in English

The current release of Write Brief with AI only supports content written in English.

Use Jetpack AI to improve your writing

Write Brief with AI is designed to make it easy for you to identify and address readability issues directly within the post editor. It highlights opportunities for improvement in your text:

  • Spelling mistakes – The tool highlights typos and suggests corrections (this feature requires Jetpack version 13.8 or higher).
  • Complex words – The tool highlights complex words and suggests simpler alternatives to enhance clarity.
  • Long sentence – The tool identifies overly long sentences, suggesting how to split them for better readability.
  • Unconfident words – The tool highlights words that weaken your statements and suggests stronger alternatives.

Activate Write Brief with AI

Write Brief with AI is disabled by default. You must toggle it on and choose the readability criteria you’d like to use. Here’s how:

  1. With a post open in your post editor, click on the green Jetpack icon in the top left.
  2. Find the Writing Assistance section in the sidebar. You may need to un-collapse it by clicking on the icon.
  3. Under Write Brief with AI (Beta), click the Show issues & suggestions toggle on to activate the feature.
  4. You can include all four readability criteria (Spelling mistakes, Complex words, Long sentence, and Unconfident words) or enable/disable each of them individually.

The Write Brief with AI settings are also available in the post editor sidebar under the Post options (below the green Jetpack icon.)

Use Write Brief with AI when writing

Each of the readability criteria (Complex words, Long sentence, and Unconfident words) is assigned a color that is used to highlight the corresponding text in your post editor.

Here is how you can work with your text using the Write Brief with AI tool:

  1. Start by adding some text content. Remember, this tool is meant to guide, not create—you are the writer. If you need assistance with content creation, check out our documentation for the Jetpack AI Assistant Block.
  2. Check if you see any highlighted areas.
  3. Hover over a highlighted area to view a tooltip giving you options:
    • Use AI to generate an improved version.
    • Ignore the suggestion. Ignore will only temporarily remove the highlight. It will show up again if the text is edited or if the post editor is reloaded.
    • Highlighted words detected as spelling mistakes can be added to your local dictionary (click Add to dictionary). Added words are treated as valid words throughout your entire site if you continue using the same browser. If you clear your browser’s history, these added words will also be cleared.
  4. To generate an improved version:
    1. Click the Suggest button.
    2. A loading animation appears while AI generates text.
    3. Click the new version to replace the text.
    4. If you don’t opt for the replacement, you can move away from the tooltip to close it.

Check your readability score with Write Brief with AI

Write Brief with AI calculates a reading grade score using the Flesch-Kincaid readability grade level. This score updates dynamically as you type, allowing you to adjust your writing in real time. The ideal score varies depending on your audience, but many experts recommend you aim for a grade 8 reading level to ensure optimal readability.

To see your readability score:

  1. Expand the Writing Assistance section in your sidebar with the Post tab or the Jetpack tab active.
  2. Your Reading grade score will be there under the readability criteria toggles.
