Jetpack OpenTable Block

Take reservations directly on posts or pages with the Jetpack OpenTable block.

If you are a restaurant owner, your ultimate goal in getting online is to drive reservations to your property. Let visitors quickly fill out an online reservation form to book a table with the OpenTable block.

Add the OpenTable block

The OpenTable block is a part of the Jetpack Blocks suite and is activated by default. It does not require a paid upgrade to use. See our Jetpack Blocks article to learn about the available blocks and how to activate them.

Jetpack Blocks require the Block Editor (also referred to as the Gutenberg editor). If you’ve installed the Classic Editor plugin, you have a few options:

  • Deactivate the Classic Editor: Go to PluginsInstalled Plugins in your WP Admin and deactivate the Classic Editor plugin.
  • Enable both editors: If you prefer flexibility, navigate to Settings → Writing in your WP Admin (not the menu under Jetpack settings). Set Allow users to switch editors to Yes. You will only see these options if you have the Classic Editor plugin installed and active.

Some custom themes or plugins may prevent you from using the Block Editor. In that case, please contact the support team for the plugin or theme for further assistance.

For more details, see Using Blocks and the Classic Editor.

  1. You can add the OpenTable block by searching for and/or selecting it from the Jetpack section of the block selector. The icon is identified by its green OpenTable logo. See Jetpack Blocks for detailed instructions on adding blocks.
  2. After adding the block, you’ll see a field where you can enter an OpenTable Reservation Widget embed code. This guide from OpenTable explains the embed code in detail if you need help locating it.
  3. Once you have the code, paste it into the field and click Embed. The embedded reservation widget will then be displayed.

Block settings

Every block has specific options in the editor sidebar, and options can be found in the block toolbar. If you do not see the sidebar, click the Settings icon (it looks like a menu) next to the Publish button.

Styles settings: you can choose from four different styles to customize the look of your OpenTable block:

  • Standard
  • Tall
  • Wide
  • Button

The default style is Standard. If you hover over each style option, a pop-up window with a preview of the block’s appearance will appear.

Additional settings: add your OpenTable restaurant ID(s); your first ID is added automatically when you add your embed code.

You can also select from a list of languages OpenTable supports and set the reservation form to open in a new window.

Advanced settings: add a CSS class to your block, write custom CSS, and style the block as you see fit.
