Add reviews to your site via the Jetpack Star Rating block.
As a site author, you can benefit from the Star Rating block to create and insert rating options into a post or a page. Please note that you cannot use the block to solicit feedback or poll users reading the post. Your viewers cannot use the Star Rating block to cast a vote or a rating.
The Star Rating block is available on all Jetpack-connected sites. It is a part of the Jetpack Blocks suite and is activated by default. See our Jetpack Blocks article to learn about the available blocks and how to activate them.
Jetpack Blocks require the Block Editor (also referred to as the Gutenberg editor). If you’ve installed the Classic Editor plugin, you have a few options:
- Deactivate the Classic Editor: Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins in your WP Admin and deactivate the Classic Editor plugin.
- Enable both editors: If you prefer flexibility, navigate to Settings → Writing in your WP Admin (not the menu under Jetpack settings). Set Allow users to switch editors to Yes. You will only see these options if you have the Classic Editor plugin installed and active.
Some custom themes or plugins may prevent you from using the Block Editor. In that case, please contact the support team for the plugin or theme for further assistance.
For more details, see Using Blocks and the Classic Editor.
Add the Star Rating block
You can add the Star Rating block by searching and/or selecting it from the Jetpack section of the block selector. You can recognize its green star icon. See Jetpack Blocks for detailed instructions on adding blocks.
Once you add the block in your WordPress editor and save/publish your content, the star rating is ready to be used by your viewers.
By clicking once on a star, you can give a full star review – from one to five stars. You can also give a half-rating star by clicking twice on the rating star – from half-star to four and half star.
Block toolbar settings
Click in the block on the WordPress editor to display the block toolbar.
You can use the alignment button in the toolbar to add the ratings to the left, right or center relative to the page.
Block Settings
Every block has specific options in the editor sidebar besides those found in the block toolbar. If you do not see the sidebar, click the Settings icon (it looks like a menu) next to the Publish button.
The options you can manage from the block settings are the following:
- Styles: select either Filled or Outlined stars to change the rating appearance.
- Highest rating: since the block includes 5 stars rating by default, you can set this more or less using the slider. The minimum amount of stars you can set is 0.
- Color: customize the star color using any of the defaults colors. Alternatively, you can use the Custom Color link to use any other color.
- Advanced: add a CSS class to your block, write custom CSS, and style the block as you see fit.
