Moving your website from WordPress.com to WordPress.org may seem intimidating, but it’s a manageable process. You can continue enjoying the benefits of Jetpack on any hosting platform.
Keep the features you like with the Jetpack plugin
The transition from WordPress.com doesn’t mean you’ll lose the powerful tools Jetpack provides for security, performance, and site management. Keep the value of Jetpack in mind as you take your website to its new home. When you migrate, you can also transfer your subscribers and stats.
You can follow the steps listed below to start the site migration from WordPress.com to WordPress.org.
Migrate the site content
You can use WordPress’s built-in export/import tools to transfer your content (posts, pages, media, etc.) from WordPress.com to WordPress.org.
- Export your site from WordPress.com by navigating to the Tools → Export page in your dashboard
- From there, download all of your content in a single file, as per the instructions on this page.
- Now that your content is exported, the importing process will happen on a third-party hosting provider. However, our support services do not cover this. However, you can refer to the following resources that might assist you in navigating the import procedure on your new platform:
- WordPress Import – for import-related documentation.
- Migrating a WordPress Site – for a comprehensive migration guide.
- Tools – Import and Export Tutorial – for a learning resource with hands-on tutorials.
We encourage you to contact your hosting provider for personalized assistance throughout the import process.
Migrating Subscribers and Stats
- To migrate your email and WordPress.com subscribers, you must install and activate the Jetpack plugin on your new WordPress.org site.
- Once activated, Jetpack offers a migration tool to transfer your followers (email and WordPress.com subscribers) from your WordPress.com site.
- Jetpack can also transfer your site stats. Once it is installed on your WordPress.org site and connected to your WordPress.com account, your stats should display. If they don’t, contact support.
Get started with Jetpack
Once your site has been successfully exported to a WordPress.org installation and Jetpack is activated and well-connected, you’re ready to start enjoying the features you loved when your site was hosted on WordPress.com.
