Generate content guidelines with Jetpack AI

Learn how to generate and improve your site’s content guidelines with Jetpack AI, directly from the WordPress Content Guidelines settings screen.

What content guidelines areMD

Content guidelines are a set of written rules that describe how content on your site should look and read. They cover four areas:

• Your site’s purpose (Site).
• Your writing style (Copy).
• Your image style (Images).
• Any extra rules you want to add (Additional).

RequirementsMD

To generate content guidelines with Jetpack AI, you need:

• An active Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete plan. On lower plans, the generate and improve buttons are replaced by an upgrade notice.
• WordPress with the Gutenberg Content Guidelines experiment enabled.

How to access content guidelinesMD

1. Log in to WP Admin.
2. Go to Settings → Guidelines.

The Content Guidelines screen shows four sections: Site, Copy, Images, and Additional.

Generate guidelines for your entire siteMD

The fastest way to start is to generate all four sections at once:

1. Go to Settings → Guidelines.
2. On your first visit, a card titled “Generate your guidelines in seconds” appears at the top of the screen.
3. Click Get started to generate guidelines for all four sections.
4. If you have dismissed the card, click Generate guidelines at the top of the screen instead. This generates all four sections in one step.
5. Review the suggestions in each section (see Review and accept suggestions below).

Once your sections already contain guidelines, the top button changes to Improve guidelines. Click it to refine all four sections at once.

Generate guidelines for a single sectionMD

You can generate or improve one section at a time:

1. Go to Settings → Guidelines.
2. Find the section you want to work on: Site, Copy, Images, or Additional.
3. Click Generate guidelines in that section to create guidelines from scratch, or Improve guidelines to refine what is already there.
4. Review the suggestions for that section (see Review and accept suggestions).

Generate guidelines for a single blockMD

Each guideline is made up of blocks. You can generate or improve one block on its own:

1. Open a block in the Content Guidelines editor.
2. Click Generate guidelines or Improve guidelines inside the block.
3. Review the suggestion for that block (see Review and accept suggestions).

Review and accept suggestionsMD

Jetpack AI shows every suggested change as a word-level comparison before anything is saved. Added text appears in green. Removed text appears in red with a line through it.

For each suggestion you have two choices:

• Click Accept to keep the change.
• Click Dismiss to discard the change and keep your existing text.

Nothing is saved until you click Accept. Dismissing a suggestion leaves your guidelines unchanged.

While Jetpack AI is working, the section you are generating shows a green shimmer, and a spinner appears in the section heading.

What happens on a lower planMD

The generate and improve buttons require a Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete plan. On a free or lower plan, these buttons are replaced by an upgrade notice with a link to upgrade. You can still edit your content guidelines by hand on any plan.
