Let AI improve your writing
Write Brief with AI is designed to make it easy for you to identify and address readability issues directly within the editor. It highlights areas needing improvement in your text to help you avoid common pitfalls:
- Spelling mistakes – The tool highlights typos and suggests corrections (this feature requires Jetpack version 13.8 or higher).
- Complex words – The tool highlights complex words and suggests simpler alternatives to enhance clarity.
- Long sentence – The tool identifies overly long sentences, suggesting how to split them for better readability.
- Unconfident words – The tool highlights words that weaken your statements and suggests stronger alternatives.
Activate Write Brief with AI
Write Brief with AI is disabled by default.
Here is how to toggle the activation and choose the readability criteria you want to use:
- Expand the AI Assistant section in your Settings sidebar with the Post tab active.
- Locate the Write Brief with AI section. The tool is active when the Show suggestions toggle is on. You can include all four readability criteria (Spelling mistakes, Complex words, Long sentence, and Unconfident words) or enable/disable each of them individually.
The Write Brief with AI settings are also available in the Jetpack sidebar, to access them from there:
- Click the Jetpack icon in the top corner of your editor.
- Expand the AI Assistant section.
Use Write Brief with AI when writing
Each of the readability criteria (Complex words, Long sentence, and Unconfident words) is assigned a color that is used to highlight the corresponding text by a 3px bottom border.
Here is how you can work with your text using the Write Brief with AI tool:
- Start by adding some content. Remember, this tool is meant to guide, not create—you are the writer. If you need assistance with content creation, check Jetpack AI Assistant Block.
- Check if you see any highlighted areas.
- Hover over a highlighted area to view a tooltip giving you options:
- Use AI to generate an improved version.
- Ignore the suggestion. Ignore will only temporarily remove the highlight. It will show up again if the block is edited or if the page is reloaded.
- Highlighted words detected as spelling mistakes can be added to your local dictionary (click Add to dictionary). Added words are treated as valid words throughout your entire site if you continue using the same browser. If you clear your browser’s history, these added words will also be cleared.
- To generate an improved version:
- Click the Suggest button.
- A loading animation appears while AI generates text.
- Click the new version to replace the text.
- If you don’t opt for the replacement, you can move away from the tooltip to close it.
Check your readability score
Write Brief with AI calculates a reading grade score using the Flesch-Kincaid readability grade level. This score updates dynamically as you type, allowing you to adjust your writing in real time. The ideal score varies depending on your audience, but aiming for a grade 8 level ensures optimal readability.
To see your score:
- Expand the AI Assistant section in your Settings sidebar with the Post tab active.
- Locate the Write Brief with AI section and your Reading grade score.
