Enhance Your Posts with Jetpack’s AI-Generated Featured Images

Jetpack AI adds AI-powered featured image generation to your WordPress post and page editor. It will base the output on your post content and generate a unique high resolution image, with no prompt needed.

Requirements for Jetpack AI featured image generation

AI-powered featured images are available for sites with a working Jetpack connection that use the block editor and have Jetpack Blocks enabled. For additional details, please see the Requirements.

Cost and Usage limitations for Jetpack AI featured image generation

One image generation is equivalent to 1 request. You are charged 1 request each time an image is successfully generated, regardless of whether you use it as your featured image. All generated images are stored in your Media Library and are available for any future use.

Failed image generations do not count toward your free request limit.

Generate a featured image with Jetpack AI

Jetpack AI can generate featured images for posts, pages, and custom post types.

To generate a featured image:

1. Start by drafting your content.
2. Find and expand the Improve with AI section in the sidebar of your post or page editor. Make sure you’ve clicked on either the Post tab or the green Jetpack icon in the top right.
3. Click the Generate Image button in the Get Featured Image section.
4. Jetpack AI will open the image generation window. Above the prompt box, you’ll see suggested prompts based on your post content. You can click any suggestion to use it, or type your own description in the prompt box.
5. Choose an image style from the dropdown (such as Line Art or Anime), if you’d like to apply one, or a size from the Aspect Ratio dropdown to adjust the resolution.
6. Hit Enter on your keyboard
7. The screen will show a loading animation while the image is created.
8. Once ready, you can set the image as featured by clicking Save, or generate another one. Before generating again, you can adjust the prompt, pick a different suggestion, or change the style. Previously generated images remain available for selection.
9. Publish your post.

In addition to the sidebar in your post and page editor, the Jetpack AI featured image generator is also available in the Featured image section in the post or page editor’s sidebar. When you click Set featured image in the post or page sidebar, one of the options there will be Generate Image.

Specifics about your Jetpack AI-generated featured images

Jetpack AI generates images in PNG format with a default resolution of 1024×1024 pixels. To ensure optimal display, consider using our CDN, Site Accelerator.

All images are automatically saved to your Media Library, allowing you to use them later as featured images or within your post content.

Troubleshooting Jetpack AI featured image generation

If featured image generation fails for any reason, the pop-up will display an error message with details about the error. When this happens, you can always retry by clicking the Try again button. Trying again can help with intermittent errors, such as connection issues with OpenAI services.

Limitations of the content Jetpack AI can generate

The Jetpack AI tool cannot generate images that:

• Depict copyrighted characters, or other protected images.
• Represent specific politicians, celebrities, or other public figures.
• Mimic the style of artists or creative professionals whose latest work was created post-1912.

Should content policy violations prevent image generation, you will see a proper error message.
