Use Google Photos, Pexels, and Openverse with Jetpack

Use Google Photos, Pexels, and Openverse directly in Jetpack’s media blocks.

Jetpack expands your media options by letting you add images from Google Photos, Pexels, and Openverse across all supported media blocks.

These sources can be accessed from the Select Image menu when using:

You can browse:

  • Personal photos from your Google Photos account (requires a one-time connection),
  • Free stock images from Pexels
  • Openly licensed or public domain content from Openverse.

How to access Image Sources in Jetpack Blocks

  1. In the Block Editor, add any media-related block (such as Image, Slideshow, Tiled Gallery, or Story).
  2. Click the Select Image button or media picker, depending on the block.
  3. In the dropdown or modal window, choose a source:
    • Google Photos – Connect your account to access and browse your personal photo albums.
    • Pexels free photos – Browse and insert high-quality, curated stock images.
    • Openverse – Search and use public domain and Creative Commons licensed content.
  4. Search or browse the images, then click Insert.

These external media source options appear in any block that supports Jetpack’s enhanced media picker.

Replace an image using Image Sources

  1. Select an Image Block and click Replace.
  2. In the dropdown, select Google Photos, Pexels free photos, or Openverse

Google Photos: One-Time Connection

To use Google Photos:

  1. Select Google Photos as your source.
  2. Log in to your Google account and approve access.
  3. Browse your photo albums and insert directly into the block.

Pexels and Openverse: Instant Access

These sources do not require sign-in:

  • Pexels provides high-resolution stock photography.
  • Openverse searches a wide range of openly licensed media.

Use the search bar to quickly find visuals relevant to your content.

Revoke Jetpack’s authorization to your Google Photos

To remove permission for Jetpack to access your Google Photos, follow these steps:

  1. Start at WP-admin.
  2. Go to Settings → Media
  3. Click the Disconnect button next to ‘Google Photos’.
