Customize the Newsletter experience

Enhance the Jetpack Newsletter experience by using the following customization options.

Newsletter customization options can be found at Jetpack → Settings → Newsletter in WP Admin.

Email configuration

Jetpack Newsletter’s Email configuration options allow you to determine how your Newsletter will arrive in your subscribers’ email inboxes. From here you can choose to enable featured images to appear in new post notification emails, and adjust whether to include the full text or an excerpt of your post, and more.

Email byline

Customize the byline displayed in your newsletter emails. These options allow you to configure author avatar, author display name, and the post date.

Setting options:

  1. Show author avatar on your emails: Display the author’s avatar image (via Gravatar). We use Gravatar to associate an avatar image with your primary email address. Toggle this option on to display the author’s avatar in your Newsletter. From this section, you can choose the option to update your Gravatar, which will redirect you to your Gravatar profile.
  2. Show author display name: Show the author’s name. Toggle this option on to show the author’s display name in your Newsletter. You can adjust user display names on your Users page in WP Admin.
  3. Add the post date: Include the post date. Toggle this option on to include the post date in your Newsletter. You can customize the date format in WP Admin, at Settings → General → Date Format.

The Preview section at the top updates in real-time as you toggle different options on or off.

Sender name

Set a custom blog name that will be used as the “From” name in your Newsletter.

You’ll see a field labeled Sender name where you can enter the name you’d like to use. When you save your changes, the sender name will be set to the value you entered. If you leave the field blank, the default value will be your site’s name.

Reply-to settings

By default, replies are not allowed. However, you can give your subscribers the ability to reply to your Newsletter by enabling the option under the Reply-to settings section. You have three options:

  1. Replies are not allowed
  2. Replies will be a public comment on the post – replies are posted to the blog post as pending comments.
  3. Replies will be sent to the post author’s email – replies are sent to the post author’s email address.

Incorrect name showing when receiving Newsletters

Jetpack Newsletters are sent from donotreply@wordpress.com. If your newsletter appears to come from a different name than expected, your email client may have a saved contact associated with donotreply@wordpress.com under a different name.

When this happens, the saved name will override the default sender name.

How to Fix:
• Check your saved contacts for an entry with donotreply@wordpress.com.
• Delete the saved contact.
• Future newsletters should now display the correct sender name.

Confirmation email

The confirmation email is sent to people who do not have a WordPress.com account, in order to confirm their email address is valid. It cannot be customized.

If someone already has a WordPress.com account and subscribes to a new blog or newsletter, they will not receive the confirmation email.

Welcome email message

When someone signs up for your blog or newsletter, after they have a confirmed email address, they will receive a welcome email.

To change the message that new subscribers see in the welcome email, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Jetpack → Settings Newsletter.
  2. Scroll down to the Welcome email message section and edit your message. You can use plain text; HTML tags aren’t allowed – only the </a> is currently available to use.
  3. Save settings.

If your subscribers do not receive a welcome message upon confirmation, please contact support.

Add Subscriber Login Block to site navigation

Effortlessly incorporate the Subscriber Login block into your site navigation.

Once enabled, the Subscriber Login block will seamlessly integrate into your navigation, enhancing user experience and accessibility. The login link is located at the top right end of the screen.

If you want to tweak the appearance or functionality of the Subscriber Login block, click on the “Preview and edit” link to access customization options. From there, you can adjust styles, modify labels, and make any other desired changes to suit your preferences.

You can read more about that on the dedicated Subscribers Login Block page.

Enable a subscriber pop-up for your posts

Enhance reader engagement by adding a subscription form pop-up to your posts.

Go to Jetpack → Settings → Newsletter to access the Subscription section, where you can manage various locations that offer visitors the option to subscribe to your site:

  • Add the Subscribe block at the end of each post.
  • Show subscription pop-up when scrolling a post.
  • Subscription overlay on homepage.
  • Floating subscribe button on site’s bottom corner.
  • Add the Subscribe block to the navigation.
  • Enable the “subscribe to site” option on your comment form.
  • Enable the “subscribe to comments” option on your comment form.

Remember to click the Save settings button to save your changes.

Where and when the subscriber pop won’t show

Edit the subscriber pop-up

If you are using a block theme, you can preview and customize the pop-up in the templates editor. You can access this feature via the Preview and edit the pop-up link located beneath the Enable subscriber pop-up toggle. This option is exclusive to block themes.

Add and customize the Subscribe Block

There are many options for customizing and placing the Subscribe block to maximize your readers’ exposure to it and increase the chances of them subscribing to your blog. You can read more on adding and setting up the Subscribe Block on the Subscribe Block documentation page.

Customize the content of new post emails

You can customize some basic features of the emails we send when you publish a new post. There isn’t currently a way to customize the style/branding of the emails.

Content

Encourage more traffic to your site by including only a blog post teaser in the email. Choose what content to include in your subscription emails in a couple of different ways:

  • Excerpt or Full Text: Go to Jetpack → Settings → Newsletter in the WP Admin to adjust the “For each new post email, include” setting in the Email Configuration section. You can choose either Full text or Excerpt. Note that this will not change what shows in your RSS feed. For the RSS feed setting, go to WP Admin Settings → Reading.
  • Full text: the email sent to your subscribers will display the entire post that’s published on your site.
  • Excerpt: the email will include an introduction to your post with a button/link to read the full content on your site. The excerpt shown in the email depends on the post’s settings: if the ‘Excerpt’ field in the Post Editor is empty, the first 350 characters of the post will be used. If the field contains content, that excerpt will appear in the email. You can also use our AI tool to generate high-quality excerpts.
  • More Block: Everything that is above the More tag will appear in the subscription emails, followed by a link inviting users to click to continue reading. Everything that is below that tag will only appear on the post.

To preview the newsletter email, you can use the preview option in the built-in “post preview” dropdown from the WordPress Editor.

Featured Images

Include your post’s featured image at the top of the post notification email.

To activate the Featured Image setting:

  1. Go to the WP Admin.
  2. Navigate to Jetpack → Settings → Newsletter.
  3. Scroll down to Email Configuration and toggle on Enable featured image on your new post emails.

Sender Name

You can change the sender name by:

  1. Go to Settings General in WP Admin.
  2. Change the site title.

Avatar or Profile Picture

To change the email author image, add a Gravatar for each author on the site. You can make it one brand image, like your site logo, if you want to make the avatar consistent.

Manage subscribers

Import subscribers

You can import subscribers manually or import a CSV list of existing followers from another email platform or list. While you can only add up to 100 subscribers this way for free, you can add up to 10,000 subscribers if you upgrade your plan to a Jetpack Social or bundled Jetpack plan.

Export subscribers

You can download a CSV containing your email subscribers by:

  1. Go to WordPress.com → My Site(s) Jetpack Subscribers.
  2. Click the three dots icon next to the Add subscribers button.
  3. Click Download email subscribers as CSV to export your list of subscribers.

Managing Newsletter settings on WordPress.com

In addition to the Jetpack Newsletter settings in WP Admin described above, you can also manage some Jetpack Newsletter settings on WordPress.com, here: https://wordpress.com/settings/newsletter
