Learn how AI answers in Jetpack Search can summarize your content and answer visitor questions directly within your search results.

How AI answers work

When a visitor searches your site, Jetpack Search can now do more than return a list of matching pages. AI answers reads the search results, summarizes the relevant content, and presents a short answer at the top of the results list. If a visitor types a question instead of a keyword, the AI responds conversationally, drawing from your published content.

If a search returns no results, the AI will relax the query and try to find related content so your visitors are less likely to hit a dead end.

AI answers is designed to stay out of the way unless a visitor engages with it. Standard keyword searches still return the familiar list of results. The AI summary appears above those results only when it has something useful to add. The standard search results still appear below the AI answer, so visitors can also browse results the traditional way.

If a visitor asks a question, the AI will answer it directly and include links to the relevant posts or pages on your site. Visitors can then continue to a full chat experience if they want to explore further.

Plan requirements

AI Answers available in a paid Jetpack Search subscription, or a plan that includes Search, such as Jetpack Complete. The free tier of Jetpack Search does not include AI answers.

Enabling AI answers

AI answers is managed from the Jetpack Search dashboard in WP Admin.

1. Go to Jetpack → Search in WP Admin.
2. Click the AI Answers tab.
3. Toggle the setting to Enable AI answers for your site.

Once enabled, the AI summary will begin appearing in search results for your visitors when relevant.

Customizing the AI personality

You can shape the tone and behavior of AI answers so responses feel consistent with your site’s voice. This is done through content guidelines, similar to how you might describe your site’s personality to a new writer.

1. Go to Jetpack → Search in WP Admin.
2. Click the AI Answers tab.
3. Look for the Personality section.
4. Enter instructions that describe how the AI should respond to visitors. For example, you might write “Answer in a friendly, casual tone” or “Keep responses brief and link to the full article.”

The AI will use these guidelines when generating answers from your content.
